The name "Palace on Wheels" was derived from its royal back-ground of the coaches.
The passenger coaches which were originally meant to be the personal railway coaches of the erstwhile rulers of princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India. These coaches were not being used by the Indian Railways after independence in normal passenger trains on account of very rich and traditional interiors.

Royal Rajasthan on Wheels

The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels has been among the most anticipated trains in the history of Indian luxury vehicles. Much of this could be attributed to the fact that it is offering facilities that have never been offered before by any Indian luxury train.
The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels has been equipped with the latest facilities so that the tourists have no reason for complaints. The travelers would be able to avail facilities like super deluxe saloons and retro lounges at the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels – something which has not been done before.


Fairy Queen

The Fairy Queen, the oldest working Steam Locomotive in the world, is a 2-2-2WT BG loco built in 1855 by Kitson, Thompson, & Hewitson for the British firm, the East India Railway


Heritage on Wheels  

Heritage on Wheels is a luxury train, on the lines of the Palace on Wheels. Heritage on Wheels is a joint venture of the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways. The Heritage on Wheels runs on the meter gauge. The train traverses through the uncharted regions of Bikaner and Shekhawati, famous repositories of the heritage and culture of Rajasthan. Besides Bikaner and Shekhavati region, the Heritage on Wheels train also helps you to explore the cultural heritage of other cities of Rajasthan in a grand and royal style


Royal Orient Train

The Royal Orient is regarded as one of the world's most lavish and luxurious trains. Developed on the lines of famous Palace On wheels, it was started as a joint effort between the Tourist Corporation of Gujarat Limited and the Indian railways during 1994-95.
The blue color train has 13 coaches in all, well maintained with all modern facilities comparable to best of 5 star hotels. All the 13 coaches represent the cultural legacy of the region it covers on its way. The cabins are neat and clean, comfortable and colorfully decorated with baths and showers attached to them. A restaurant car is attached with the train to provide you Indian, continental, Chinese as well as Rajasthani and Gujarati cuisine. The facility of a well stocked bar with Indian and international brands of wine is available at your disposal to cater for your drinking needs. A library with books on diverse subjects, journals, magazines and newspapers is there for book lovers on the train.
